Artists: Shinae Kim /JIIIIIN & GRAYCODE (KOR), Jimok Choi (KOR), Ae Hee Lee (KOR), Byung Chul Kim (KOR), Amalia Valdés (CHL), Juan Pablo Nazar (CHL), Michael Lopez (USA), Michael Lachmann & Lyndsay Pomerantz (CAN)
The Korean Culture Centre is inviting Korean and international artists to participate in a dialogue in the centre’s gallery. It is the first time that the Korean Culture Centre has presented the work of both Korean and international artists. The artists involved are from South Korea, Chile, the US and Canada.
The point of departure of ONE ON ONE - Aftermath is the exploration of the gallery of the Cultural Section of the Embassy of Republic of Korea as a site for architectonic, historical and cultural connotation.
The artists are confronted with and respond to various conditions as inspiration for the work; the two-dimensional floor plan of the gallery space, the furnishings, cultural and institutional spatial specifications, as well as a relation to Berlin all of which dictate the themes found within the exhibition. The performative, situative and multimedia works will together create a polyphonic orchestration.
In cooperation with Keum Art Projects & Korean Culture Centre

Amalia Valdés / Juan Pablo Nazar (Chile)
This is the first time that Amalia Valdés and Juan Pablo Nazar are working together. Amalia, accustomed to installing her geometric pieces on a regular grid, will be interrupted by new pieces, this time of organic forms that will break their almost sacred geometry, and Will give space to the photographs-collages created by Juan, this time, also taken to the volume. Both will continue exploring from different concepts like reality or fiction, perception and intuition. The intention of the collaborative work has as its starting point to inhabit the space of the room, from the area and its extension; Recreating an infinite universe where our imagination coexists with the translation of a cosmos; Stars, planets, satellites and meteorites embodied in paper and metal sheets. www.unarquitectura.cl www.amaliavaldes.cl |
Ae Hee Lee (Korea)
I create a world of dreams to perceive the other inner reality, dreams or memories. Source is the documentation of my dreams. Every morning after I wake up I draw my dreams in a dream diary. This diary is the fundament for paintings, which days are calendaric and linked arranged. I transfer the lines of the drawing into dotted and plain shapes so that they get in a complex arrangement of thousands of dots. Every big image (120 x 140 cm) is one month, divided like a calendar corresponding to the weekdays in rows from left to right. One day is 20 x 20 cm. The work in the One on One Exhibition is an experimental installation which reflect via the light on the walls. The first important step was to adapt my dream project to the room and combine it with the feeling of the dreams. The second was to find a solution for the dialog and the collaboration with the other artists. There are commonalities between my dots and the materiality of Amalia’s work and it seems that through Juan’s photomontage flow a three dimensional universe. Thats why I use the immaterial light which unconscious the awareness and the hidden box, where you want to look inside to search for the existence or the being of the dream. www.aeheelee.com |

As part of the performance series "One on One" meet the two artists Shinae Kim and Christine Crook on 17 February at 19 o'clock in the „Abteilung für Alles Andere“.
The starting point of the second performance "One on One" is the two-dimensional floor plan of the "Ateilung für Alles Andere" ". Based on the ground plan, Shinae Kim creates a grid structure in which the lines of the space intersect. The length and depth and crossings of the lattice structure are coordinates from which sounds ("impus signals") are created. In cooperation with the two sounddesginer, GRAYCODE and JIIIIIN, Kim transforms the space into a synaesthetic installation of sound and space. Kim engaged in her work with the temporal perception of spaces based on the basic elements: point, line and plane.
While Kim turns the room into a synthetic event of sound and installation, Christine Crook responds to the room with a physically-physical approach. Inspired by the spatial sound body created by Kim on the ground, Crook develops a physical movement with a special costume designed for the space of the"Ateilung für Alles Andere"
Through the sound and the performance the "Abteilung für Alles Andere" turns into an "episodic" event. The room gets its own temporality and an idiosyncratic vitality. Kim and Crook give the visitors a multi-dimensional experience of the space for an evening.
