RCO
October 2015 -
RCO is an artists' collective that wires up everyday objects, developing different types of circuitry to generate and experiment in sounds and noises. A variety of devices and noise sources are arranged in interactive feedback-loops and polyphonic sound installations. Live RCO assembles momentary and improvised setups that consider the specifics of a particular space and its situation and integrates these into the continuously changing acoustic environment.

RCO is building electronic musical instruments. Their Heterodyne Signal Digesters consist of several oscillators to generate a range of tones and an old remote control to create the rhythm.
The workshop is free and concludes with a collective concert on sunday the 23rd.

The foundation of the Remote Control Orchestra
Upcycling is transforming a cast-off item into something valuable. The object may be discarded for a variety of reasons: It’s old, torn, stained, chipped. The goal is to personalize each upgrade in a way that is meaningful. Upcycling is not only delightfully gratifying for the Do It Yourself crafter, it’s also smart for the environment. For instance, turn your old remote control into a mini synthesizer.
We are going to form the Remote Control Orchestra from workshop participants.
Everybody is welcome to join in. No knowledge or experience is needed.
As a start we will build electronic oscillators, explain the basic circuit and show how we can get any sound out of it. We will use old remote controls to build a sound machine that will be able to create different voices (polyphony) and beats.
Later we will try to build other (more complicated) oscillators or you might bring anything that you would like to bend: radios, children toys, guitar effects, computer amplifier… for creating a new sound machine. Let´s get crazy or better!
We will provide all needed components to get started, but you should bring your own old remote control.
