We are happy to announce a very special open studio of Korean artist Yoo Geun Taek.
Yoo Geun Taek (1965), painter and professor at Sungshin Womens University, has been pioneering a new era in Korean art history by applying contemporary style and subject on traditional Korean painting methods of using ink on Hanji, the Korean traditional paper. Yoo explores intimate subjects like everyday life and his personal space, and intends to contain the intense energy through surreal composition, while retaining the essentials of Oriental painting techniques.
During just three weeks of his artist residency in Berlin, he has created a series of drawings telling his "intimate" moments about his new environments in Berlin. The open studio gives a special insight about idea and works by Yoo and the presence of the Korean contemporary painting.
Please don´t miss this special chance to get to know him personally. Everybody welcome!

NIEDERLASSUNG BERLIN: AND SO I WAS NAKED AGAIN - Exhibition and performance by Sara Edström
To step out of one part of my life into another. To look back and ahead. To find a way to feel proud and strong in the present. To face myself. To listen to myself. To try new paths in life and in art. This is what I have been doing in Berlin. I started to do music.

Alice Case creates paintings and multimedia works that explore concepts of realities that exist outside the visible order. Working with forces such as collision and balance, she uses realism, abstraction and pattern to create worlds that speak to emotional experience, multiple dimensions and political landscapes.

Scent of what I think are lilacs

Part 1 - Open Studio - “Brot Crumbs”
At Niederlassung, Vancouver artists Michael Lachman and Lyndsay Pomerantz collaborate in a process of documenting, collecting items and researching and responding to everyday life while living in Berlin.
Through photography, video, sculpture, found objects, drawing and painting they will stage a final installation that considers the neighbourhood, workspace at I-A-M and their travels. Artist friends from Vancouver have also been invited to work jointly on this project with Lachman and Pomerantz and will be included in the final presentation.

In Finnish "Lippa" means kiosk and translates to the word “umbrella”, a place of shelter. Kiosks or in Berlin the beloved after-hour “Späti" as we know them are small stores, a source of commerce and distributors of magazines, tobacco, sweets, Döner and/or beverages. However, originally, they were little pavilions of culture. In Egypt, they were places of worship.
Lippa Stopp is a reverse kiosk, housing a bibliotheka: nomadic collection of artist books, discourse: space to talk & a workshop hub: make/share zines.

Seamus Heidenreich, Australian artist, currently works and lives in Berlin, at our art-space Niederlassung. Many believe that art should have a sign of mark within its curriculum. We believe that the "well-known" has to be remarkable, regardless of its personality, regardless of its abilities.
Seamus, a young self-taught artist, is practicing for several years a long experimentation 'sui generis': painting, installation and sculpture, moving - analytically - from one lesson to other one,
without forgetting the learned steps.
When I met him, I had the impression that he preferred to talk about his work rather than of himself. The initial impression is not his first expression. His artworks, especially for his upcoming show on 23rd September (in collaboration with Alicia Matthews and Jason Kerley) are regular ready-made objects (sheets, frames etc.) with a particular new feature: the language. They acquire an inner voice, through the use of music software, a miraculous hunger for the word.
Seamus Heidenreich is remarkable. His conscientious experience allows him to do what few can do:
Seamus can remain silent because his "objects" can really talk.

Silvia Heiserova’s artistic interest lies in the critique of western phallocentric power structures, symbols and vestiges. She focuses on concepts of symbolic masculine power, its historical contexts, mechanisms of its establishing, while rethinking patterns of social perception. She experiments with hybridization of elements, colours and forms with the aim to question the legitimacy of phallocentric power through its symbols.
In her current artistic research and practice, Silvia investigates the urban memory of capital cities from a critical feminist perspective. Her research is focused on how history is represented and interpreted in the urban space through commemorative elements in a context of gender hierarchy.
Silvia Binda Heiserova lives and works in Bratislava, Slovakia. She graduated from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), Faculty of Fine Arts, where she is currently enrolled in a Doctoral Programme in Artistic Practice and Research.

DIE CHEMISCHE REINIGUNG (THE DRY CLEANER)

This piece is titled Die Chemische Reinigung, or in English The Dry Cleaner. While thinking of possible works for the residency I knew I wanted to do something that fit the space well and was also easily understood. After weighing a few options I decided to create this piece because I felt that the ideas (iron, ironing board, the process of ironing itself) were universal, but the objects (the iron) were German-specific (the European chord and outlet).
I use cement because of the juxtaposition that it creates by being a hard, cold material that results in a soft, reflective installation. I want the viewer to feel as though they are stumbling upon, or interrupting, someone working; that they are trespassing and the homeowner will return any second. These objects were all found in Berlin; I arrived with nothing but a suitcase full of clothes. It was a nice challenge to create a piece on-site with material found from the neighborhood. I hope the viewer is filled with a sense of eerie silence, while simultaneously finding beauty from this 'ugly' 'heavy' material.

The group exhibition of 4 women in 3 spaces on 1 street in multiple ways-
Truthful bodies will interact with the master data truths of the life process, laboratories of art will positively nurture a patriarchal society which is afraid to smile at the Carnival of the free and anti – capitalistic evolution. In a street where anything should be happening, in those streets where often we cross sighs and missed affections, Benvenuti Magali, Sara Edström, Eva Evrad and Stéphanie Roland, find their time in their space, educating it as a heterogeneous and without conflicts proof of their passion.
Sometimes we talk about sex. Other times, what art should be market and commodification. This time we talk about explored bodies. Projects evolving as to be explored.
Magali Benvenuti, Sara Edström, Eva Evrard and Stéphanie Roland will open their spaces giving us the opportunity to talk with their productions, researches and, in some cases, with themselves. Naked. Flesh. of Museums. It lifts the art by common prejudice, directly shots the spontaneity producing three different physical and mental thoughts. Benvenuti is the Naked. Sara is Flesh. Eva and Stephanie are the untied bodies of an evolving museum.

“Museum Privatization and Global Crisis”
Stéphanie Roland and Eva Evrard are two belgian artists with their own artistic practices which will join their forces in a new project in order to challenge the conditions of existence of a museum, blurring the boundaries between the roles of Artist and Curator. “In reaction to Museum Privatization and Global Crisis, we will create a mobile nocturnal museum where one artist at once will be invited to show an artwork only during one night. “ The museum’s design will be inspired by the refugee shelter and will move to different locations following the specificity of the selected artist’s work. The aim of our residency in Institut Für Alles Mögliche is the preparation of the museum’s construction process in collaboration with architects and upcoming participating artists.

“Could you please hold me?”
“For my second open studio at the Institut Für Alles Möglishe I have continued to work to understand myself and rediscover who I am now in the middle of my life. I zoom in on my own body and realize the need to embrace it. And acknowledge he essential power of the touch. I need to hold on to myself. And I also need to be occasionally held”.
Sara Eström has focused on experimenting with new material, new expressions. I show new paintings, video, photo and sculptures made in play-doh. “As a mother of three this material is very familiar to me, it is like the material itself is some kind of self portrait. The simple mix of flour, salt and water from which I can create my own story”.
Magali Benvenuti

“Open”
Benvenuti Magali has planned a clear interweaving of video art and active performances open to the public. Thanks to the presence of two music artists, Ben R. Osborn and
@Rachel Margetts, her space plays harmoniously with the project and elaboration made by music. Everything is clear and long-waited. “I talked with the musicians today, and the idea would be that the audience stay outside and that I project the video "OPEN" on the glass of the IAM: so that it creates a kind of ghost... And the musicians would play outside, besides the audience.”
Her residency is supported by @The Fiacre-RA (France) and the Grenoble, France.

Nicole Anona Banowetz is a American sculptor from Denver who makes sewn inflatable sculptures and delicate assembled forms. Her artwork addresses vulnerability and struggle. She empowers objects through embellishment, building up protective layers, which with time become destructive. Her forms move freely between growth and decay blurring the distinction between decoration and disease. / https://nicolebanowetz.wordpress.com/

She graduated with a BFA in Fine Arts from College for Creative Studies in 2009, and was the co-founder and co-director of North End Studios in Detroit from 2009-2014. Ashley is hosting a small exhibition as an end to a one month residency at Niederlassung Berlin. / https://www.facebook.com/events/796009283781984/?pnref=story Jayson Haebichs site specific light installations use smoke, projectors and lasers to create mesmerising, immersive pieces. Curated by_collective is in Berlin for a residency during the whole of January 2015.
The exhibition Can’t fool me now, organized by Maaike Bakker and Jayne Crawshay-Hall opens on the 30th of January at 19h00 (Niederlassung, Wedding, Berlin). South African artists were requested to produce work in response to the theme Can’t fool me now. A working project, Can’t fool me now also forms the crux of a progressive curatorial study that will investigate to what extent the installation of art objects can inform the public’s reception of a show. The exhibition will be installed in a number of different instances, documented, and compared, before settling on the final installation for the 30th of January. The various instances of the exhibition will also be displayed online, so viewers can engage in the ongoing study of the various instantiations of the same show, and responses will be documented in the form of practice-led research. Can’t fool me now provides a platform for the Berlin public to preview contemporary up-and-coming fine art from a South African context. The investigation entails both the reception of the South African art current within the European public space, as well as an investigation into the installation of the art works inspired by a European context. The participating artists include: / MJ Turpin / Jana + Koos / Justin Dingwall / Dale Lawrence / Dalene Victor Meyer / Nina Torr / Skullboy more: www.curatedbycollective.com |

Space becomes a place when it is inhabited.
A sense of space-place is about how we draw our internal experiences together with the experience of inhabiting a new environment. This in return informs our relationship to the space-place that is unknown to us. Therefore we present through performance the result of our investigation in how we Sense the space-place called wedding. by Vivian.C.Ezugha / ezugha.tumblr.com and Live Marienne Noven A sense of space-place In this time and place; They sometimes look tired but most of the time they don't look at you In this space of time; Maybe I want all I could do without A physical theatre / performance art piece exploring how to express my inhabited experience of Wedding, Berlin |

You are cordially invited to the exhibition of artworks by The Institut für Alles Mögliche Berlin. Doors will be open to the artists in residence in a three space exhibition. Working through video, performance, photography, sculpture, and sound. These collaborative pieces seek to engage in conversations regarding identity relations, collective action and memorialization proposing imagined utopias that challenge normalized ways of being. The colors black and white become metaphors for racial, socio political structures and also allude to esoteric dualities.
